The History

We were formally the workshop facility of XRN Engineering, who are primarily known for the manufacture of engine parts for British classic cars.

In 2002, due to its continued success, XRN relocated to bigger premises in Guildford and the workshop facilities became a new company, Classic and Modern Engine Services Ltd. CMES was established within XRN's previous location with Paul Adams, who had been XRN's workshop manager for over 20 years, as the new owner.

The existing members of staff were also retained, which allows us to boast of nearly 100 years of collective experience within the re-manufacturing business. It is this experience, coupled with the significant investment in state of the art equipment, that allows CMES to use the latest techniques to the highest possible standards and gives us the edge over our rivals.

Our Workshop

Engineering is obviously in our blood and all our engines, classic or modern, standard or race, are built to exacting standards in our workshop. Each engine is completely stripped, meticulously cleaned and inspected, and rebuilt to original or specified specification and tolerances. All new parts used are either original or designed to meet and/or exceed the original specification. This, coupled with our specialist machining skills, allows us to produce engines to the highest possible standard and each engine is rigorously checked and tested prior to despatch.

Our Successes

We are particularly proud of our performance within the race circuit and our enhanced engines have helped produce successes such as Rae Davis at Goodwood in 2003/4/5, winner of MGF Owners championship in 2005, 2nd in our class (Classics) in Monte Carlo. We have also modified and supplied custom parts of the engines that had successes in the MGOC Midget 2004 championship and the UK fastest top fuel dragster. Our workshop and techniques were recently featured in "An MG is Born" with Mark Evans (July 2005), click here for more information.

Hi Tech Engineering Services

Our skills and expertise are not limited to the re-manufacturing of engines, we are also able to produce standard or modified cylinder heads and undertake numerous machining processes on site - click here for more information.

We also supply original or equivalent parts for all modern and classic engines.
